Thank you for your generous donation
We thank you for standing with us in helping spread the good news of the Kingdom.
2 Corinthians 9:6-15
New International Version (NIV)
Generosity Encouraged
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:
“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever.”[a]
10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

WHAT THE BLEEP? For years now I have been perplexed about the way some professing Christians talk. Profanity coming from the mouths of people who profess Christ is perplexing because my assumption is that people who want to please God want to obey the Bible, and the Bible speaks very plainly about the way we speak. However, I know we live in a very profane society. I realize that everywhere you turn there is profanity. Even sports shows and newscasters use profanity on the air these days, something that would have been...

Mega Church pastor, T.D. Jakes, has come out of the closet, so to speak. During an interview with Huffington Post, a liberal publication that has promoted positions and values that are often very anti-Christian, Jakes said that homosexuals should attend congregations that affirm their lifestyles and that politics do not need to reflect biblical ethics, adding that his position on homosexuality is both “evolved and evolving.” Jakes is yet another prominent figure in the world of televangelism and Christian entertainment who has caved to...

I didn’t realize until the last year or so how prevalent sexual lust is in the Church. I guess I sort of had an idea that it was a big problem, but not until I heard the statistic that 76% of churchgoing men actively seek out pornography that it really hit me. That’s when I began taking some action to address this problem in our fellowship. As I write this, the men in our church have begun a second go-round of The Conquer Series, a 7-week DVD study that addresses the problem of lust, with a special emphasis on...

MUST A PASTOR BE SEMINARY-TRAINED TO BE QUALIFIED TO PREACH AND TEACH? . Sometimes the question comes up as to where I went to seminary. I think this is an interesting question because sometimes it comes from a genuine desire to know my doctrinal leanings, but other times I sense that it is asked somewhat condescendingly, as if to call into question the legitimicay of a pastor’s call into ministry if he is not seminary-trained. . I’ll begin answering this question by saying that one of my mentors, Dr. Jerry King, DD, who is...

IS THERE ONLY ONE “AUTHORIZED” TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE? _____________________________ Once in a while I get this question from inquiring minds contacting me on our church website: “Do you use only one version of the Bible in your church?” When this question is asked it always has to do with whether or not we use the King James Version of the Bible, which some camps consider the only “authorized” version of the Bible, and that all others are satanic substitutes. The short answer to this question is that,...

In the wake of the third presidential debate where Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump sparred briefly over the issue of abortion, Clinton made the claim that late term abortions — as in, a baby’s life is terminated even in the ninth month — are important to protect for the sake of health issues related to the pregnancy. Trump countered that late term abortion is never okay. Mr. Trump’s statements caused no small reaction among abortion advocates. So then, who is correct? Perhaps we should treat this subject like we...

MY TRIBUTE TO DANA KEY Why I am Writing this Six Years After Dana’s Death Dana Key was one half of the two men bearing the names of the Christian rock/pop group, The DeGarmo and Key Band (later known as simply, DeGarmo and Key, and then “D&K’). Dana passed away in 2010 after a long and fruitful career and ministry. It may seem like a strange thing to write a tribute to someone six years after the person’s death. So let me provide some background how this came about. I have a 9-year-old son named...

DON’T TAKE THE BAIT OF THE NEW RACIAL TENSION I have not addressed the growing racial tension in our nation before now because it has been easier to try to ignore it. But today that changed for me. Before I launch into this discussion I need to qualify something: Racism has never even been on my radar. I was raised by a mother who had no tolerance for racism. When my mother remarried she married a black man. Her brother, my uncle, married a black woman. I myself dated several black women in my single years. My best...

“Homeschooled kids are weird.” That seems to be the sentiment among many. But many who would think this are those who live vicariously through their children. They want their kids to be the coolest and the most popular, because their children’s social status gives many parents a sense of personal validation. And yes, this is true even among Christian parents who should know better. Listen, “weird” people are everywhere. They exist in public schools just as surely as in homeschooling settings....

In this third installment of my Common Objections to Homeschooling series, I’ve asked my daughter and eldest child, Hannah, who is now married and an expectant mother, to offer her insights on the concern of socialization. In doing so, she also offers her views here on some of the benefits of homeschooling from the perspective of one who has been homeschooled all her life. (Photos and editorial comments added by me.) Thanks Hannah! ____________________ I’ve been asked the question many times, “So did you like being...
